Each individually furnished apartment features satellite TV and a fully equipped kitchen, The city of Wels, situated in the heart of Upper Austria is a real jewel and attraction for both - old and young. Run by an English family, highly valued, the hotel offers apartments in a quiet residential area in the spa town of Bad Ischl in the Salzkammergut region, Or are you interested in sports, culture and exhibitions? Wels, the city of "unlimited activities", offers sport highlights as well as classical highlights for everybody, for example the annual "International Puppet Festival", many concerts with international and folk music stars, or the "International Agricultural Fair" or the "Solar Energy Fair". It offers free LAN access, Spend a little time in Wels ! You are always welcome !. All guests are welcome to use the garden and the barbecue, They lived in spacious rectangular houses made of wooden posts, the walls covered with clay. It is unknown which people lived in the area of the present-day City of Wels in the Neolithic Period. The Illyrians, migrating into the area between the Alps and the river Danube, are the first settlers to be proved around 1000 BC. Most have balcony with mountain views, region. The Celtic Kingdom of Noricum consisted of various Celtic tribes. It stretched over the area of today’s Federal States Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Eastern Tyrol, the western part of Lower Austria up to the “Wienerwald”, which is the Vienna Woods,, Carinthia and a small part of today’s Slovenia. Noricum traded goods with the Roman Empire, to which it bordered in the South. Bed linen and towels are provided, Although most foreigners associate Munich with the famous Oktoberfest, the Bavarian city is home to many interesting churches as well. In winter, very much appreciated, the Katrinalm ski area is about 5 minutes from the hotel, For our young guests Wels offers also a small attractive zoo located near the city centre with the possibility to spend some quiet time. There is a bicycle and ski storage room, highly valued, as well as a heated ski boot storage room, In 170 AD a large military division, the “Legio II Italica Pia”, was transferred to Lauriacum, which is today’s Enns,, in order to protect the northern borders from the Marcomanni and the Quadi, who constantly threatened the boarders. The commander of that legion was at the same time governor of Noricum and had his seat of government at times in Wels. As a consequence, some of the offices were transferred from Cirunum, which is close to today’s Klagenfurt,, the official capital of Noricum, to Wels. Laundry facilities are also available at the hotel, In the Neolithic Period people had already settled down as farmers. Clients appreciate the hotel is about a 10-minute walk from the centre of Bad Ischl and the Kongress- & Theaterhaus, which is Congress Centre and Theatre,, In the late 4th and early 5th century the population was largely Christian. This early form of Christianity is documented by the unique “Tombstone of Ursa”, which is also exhibited at the Museum of the City of Wels. The Dachstein West and Postalm ski area can be reached in a 30-minute drive, Around 400 BC Celtic tribes, led by the tribe of the Norici, drove the Illyrians back to the Alpine. Transfers are available on request, In the year 488 AD the Roman province Noricum was abandoned. The formerly flourishing City of Wels lost its importance., In the 18th century the center of the city was rebuilt in Baroque style, with the master builders Johann Michael Prunner and Wolfgang Grinzenberger taking a leading part. The picturesque Baroque Facades on Stadtplatz, the main square, today still remind of that period., In 1944 and 1945 Wels was under massive air attacks. 286 houses were destroyed altogether, 437 were damaged., The Counter Reformation started towards the end of the 16th century. In the 17th century the Counter Reformation caused many wealthy protestant citizens of Wels to move from the city. Additionally, the Peasants’ War destroyed the suburbs in 1626 and people were suffering from the effects of the Thirty Years’ War. All of this caused economic dislocation. Wels recovered only slowly., During World War I, Austria-Hungary was one of the Central powers with Germany, Bulgaria, and Turkey, and the conflict left the country in political chaos and economic ruin. Austria, shorn of Hungary, was proclaimed a republic in 1918, and the monarchy was dissolved in 1919. A parliamentary democracy was set up by the constitution of Nov. 10, 1920. To check the power of Nazis advocating union with Germany, Chancellor Engelbert Dolfuss in 1933 established a dictatorship, but he was assassinated by the Nazis on July 25, 1934. Kurt von Schuschnigg, his successor, struggled to keep Austria independent, but on March 12, 1938, German troops occupied the country, and Hitler proclaimed its Anschluss, which is union, with Germany, annexing it to the Third Reich.
