It is an unique view in the middle of the green nature, very much appreciated, where you can walk and bycicle as much as you like, Until 1704 the city’s old market halls and belfry, the plan of which is drawn out in the cobblestones of the parking area, were situated in the centre of the Market Square. To the east you’ll find the gothic, 16th century stepped gable of the convent of the Grey Franciscan Sisters; to the south the City Hall in Louis XV style and the new wing, which is 1925,, inspired on the city’s Medieval market halls with belfry. Over the stepped gables of the commercial premises to the West side the sturdy Saint Michael’s tower stands guard, chiming its carillon tones over the busy city centre every 15 minutes. Guestsuites de Groote Waere are located on the border of the Handzamevaart valley, To the south of the Market Square. The valley is characterised by its open landscape, and above all, where the red deers of the family graze, In 1634 the Austin Friars from Ghent settled down at Roeselare, where they built a chapel, a monastery and a school. Between 1725 and 1735 the Baroque Augustinian Church was built at Zuidstraat. The façade’s fronton surmounts the coat of arms of Johann-Wilhelm, which is 1658-1716,, Duke of Neuburg and Lord of Roeselare and the statue of ‘Our Lady of Consolation’ by Karel Dupont. It lets you enjoy the view on the inner garden, Nationaal Wielermuseum. The squarehouse with its picturesque character has been converted to four luxurious guest chambers, highly valued, where you can enjoy the peace of nature, SAINT MICHAEL’S CHURCH. The barn was converted to a common fair, Sint-Michielskerk. Books and boardgames are available for our guests, There you’ll be able to admire painted portraits of famous historic figures related to Roeselare. In the hall there are a few statues and a lot of paintings by local artists, next to the ingenious restored 17th century tapestry ‘King Solomon’s wise judgement’. Visitors appreciate the hotel is the ideal place for relaxing!, MAIN MARKET SQUARE., The wall of the conference room has been painted with a reconstruction of a 17th century map of the city. An other one shows a historic scene, picturing the opening of the annual fair in 1552., The convent was built in 1867-1869 and the chapel in Neo-Gothic style between 1870 and 1873., Albrecht Rodenbach was the founder of the ‘Blauwvoeterie’ movement and author of various poems, works of prose and plays and he also was the Flemish Students’ Leader. He is called the ‘Wonderknape van Vlaanderen’, which is = Flemish Miracle Lad, ., Created by Jef Claerhout.

During your stay in de Groote Waere you will be received in all luxury. The four guest chambers are cosy and spaciously decorated and provided with lounge including TV and DVD, internet connection and a kitchenette with fridge and microwave. The dormitory is provided with a stylish bed covered with linen. Every chamber has a separate bathroom (with bath and shower) and toilet. Also there is a terrace with garden furniture present.
One of our chambers has facilities for wheelchair users (please contact us beforehand if you would like to use this facility).
