The area has good transport connections, very much appreciated, and the metro station "Jaume I", which is L2, is only 200 metres away, The El Raval district boarders to the west of the Barri Gòtic and has been in the past traditionally the workers persons district. It is now being slowly upgraded and is now a cosmopolitan area for living besides its commerce. Apartment house located in a narrow street in the heart of the Gothic area, highly valued, next to the famous church “Santa Maria del Mar”, very close to the Picasso museum and within 10 minutes walking Las Ramblas, the cathedral and Palau de la Música, Barri Gòtic & La Ribeira. This quarter has a huge gastronomic offer, and above all, with a large variety of restaurants, tapas bars and pubs, These three districts are linked together and cover the port area stretching from below El Ravel and Barri Gòtic to the south west edge of Sant Martí district. This was once a scruffy area which underwent transformation with advent of the Olympics., La Pedrera – Eixample, Port Vell, Barceloneta & Port Olímpic, The dominant climatic influence of the Eastern Pyrenees is the Mediterranean. The climate is hotter and drier here, and the landscape more arid. Mediterranean plants like the cistus, broom and thyme make their appearance, and the lower slopes of the hills are planted with vines. The way of life is laid-back and outdoor-oriented. The proximity of Spain is evident, too, and much of the region is Catalan, definitively incorporated into France only in 1659. As with the rest of the Pyrenees, the countryside is spectacular, and densely networked with well-organized Hiking trails. The historical sights, with the exception of the prehistoric caves at Niaux and the Cathar castle of Montségur, are most richly concentrated in the east towards the coast, in what is essentially French Catalonia, comprising Roussillon and La Cerdagne, which is Rosilló and La Cerdanya, ., The heart of old Barcelona is the section known as the “Barri Gòtic”, a warren of narrow streets and medieval gothic palaces as a reminder to the past that have been built on ruins of pre-Roman times. In the turbulent middle 1850s, the city elders decided to change the face of the rest of the town by removing the old city walls and creating grand boulevards designed to impress and at the same time allowing for future functional expansion. The winning architect was Ildefons Cerdá whose design remains today as a testimony to his excellent layout. Happily for the city, it also coincided with the emergence of their internationally famous architect Antoni Gaudí whose creations still to this day amaze and inspire all those who view his works. Antoni Gaudí, which is 1852-1926,, has left his signature in the form of sculptured buildings and objects in such an impressive manner that there are “Guided Gaudí Tours” which come highly recommended.
