Guest review score

8.5 from 6 reviews

Some have a balcony with a lovely view over the marina, The city of Cannes is situated at the south part of France in the Riviera region and its population is approximately of 70.000 inhabitants. Cannes is very famous around the world for its Film Festival and also for its Cannes Lions Festival. This is a very luxurious city and has as a principal source the tourism. La Voile d’Or is located by the port, highly valued, in the heart of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, and boasts two outdoor salt-water swimming pools, which is one heated, and a private beach, It is 905 km away from Paris, 164 km from Marseille and 26 km away from Nice. The coast is very visited, the Boulevard de la Croisette is one of the most important attractions for tourists who love beach, sun and sand. Hotel La Voile d’Or offers air-conditioned guest rooms featuring a marble en suite bathroom, and above all, TV, telephone and minibar and internet access, The Reformation in the 16th century caused upheaval throughout Europe. The Protestant teachings of Luther, Zwingli and Calvin spread quickly, although central Switzerland remained Catholic. While the rest of Europe was fighting it out in the Thirty Years' War, the Swiss closed ranks and kept out of trouble. At the end of the war in 1648 they were recognised in the Treaty of Westphalia as a neutral state. Nevertheless, the French Republic invaded Switzerland in 1798 and established the Helvetic Republic. The Swiss, however, did not take too kindly to such centralised control. Napoleon was finally sent packing following his defeat by the British and Prussians at Waterloo. The ensuing Congress of Vienna guaranteed Switzerland's independence and permanent neutrality in 1815. Later, very much appreciated, enjoy a drink in the stylish bar, In 1848 a new federal constitution was agreed on and it is largely still in place today. Bern was established as the capital and the federal assembly was set up to take care of national issues. Switzerland was then able to concentrate on economic and social matters. It developed industries predominantly dependent on highly skilled labour. Networks of railways and roads were built, opening up previously inaccessible Alpine regions and helping the development of tourism. The international Red Cross was founded in Geneva in 1863 and compulsory free education was introduced. After exercising in the gym, highly valued, relax in the sauna, The first inhabitants of the region were a Celtic tribe, the Helvetia. The Romans appeared on the scene in 107 BC by way of the St Bernard Pass, but owing to the difficulty of the terrain their conquest of the area was never decisive. They were gradually driven back by the Germanic Altemanni tribe, which settled in the 5th century. The territory was united under the Holy Roman Empire in 1032 but central control was never very tight. That was all changed by the Germanic Habsburg family, which became the most powerful dynasty in Central Europe. Habsburg expansion was spearheaded by Rudolph I, who gradually brought the squabbling nobles to heel. Have a meal in La Voile D'or’s gourmet restaurant, and above all, served in the panoramic dining room or on the outdoor terrace, The year 2001 was truly Switzerland's annus horribilis. The collapse of national airline Swissair, a canyoning accident in the Bernese Oberland killing 21 tourists, a gun massacre in the Zug parliament and a fatal fire in the Gotthard Tunnel within 12 months all prompted intense soul-searching. It is possible to hire bikes from Hotel La Voile d’Or, highly valued, so you can explore the peninsula on 2 wheels or on foot, As a prelude to full EU membership Switzerland joined the EEA, which is European Economic Area,, yet the government's strategy lay in ruins after citizens rejected the EEA in a referendum in December 1992. Switzerland's EU application has consequently been put on ice; in the meantime the government has been laying groundwork for closer integration with the rest of Europe. In 1998 the Swiss government agreed to pay US$1.2 billion compensation to relatives of Holocaust victims whose funds were deposited in Swiss banks. There is also private on-site parking, Nice has a rich history and fascinating landscapes, is a very visited city and receives great number of tourists each year, some of its buildings have baroque style and some others have Provençal, medieval and Genoese architecture. Also has an easy access to the nearest destinations such as Antibes, Monaco, St Tropez and the Provence region., Among the Genoese, Corso Italia is a favorite walking route to the sea, made incredibly lively on sunny days by roller skaters, bicyclists, joggers, and those who simply enjoy a nice walk, admiring the splendor of the sea. In the warm season, the Genoese flock to bathing establishments and nightclubs located just 3 kilometers from Corso Italia., The name Genova, which is "Genoa" in Italian,, according to a Roman legend, originated from the Roman god Janus, which is "Giano" in Italian,, protector god of all passageways, including the door to one's home or the gates of a city. This theory has some support in the importance that the Genoese placed on the entrances to their homes: every doorway was decorated with a bas-relief, often with a scene depicting Catholic saints., Afraid that its neutrality would be compromised, Switzerland declined to become a member of the United Nations, which is though it currently has 'observer' status, or NATO. It did, however, join EFTA, which is the European Free Trade Association, . In the face of other EFTA nations applying for EU, which is European Union, membership, Switzerland finally made its own application in 1992., The area of i Banchi, behind via Sottoripa, took its name from the "Banchieri", the money-exchanges of the Medieval period, with banks located under the houses surrounding the piazza. This piazza was the commercial center of Genoa until the 19th century, and it was the home of one of the three biggest markets of the city, the grain market. The piazza is dominated by the Loggia dei Mercanti, built at the end of the 16th century, which became in 1855 the home of the first Borsa Merci in Italy.
