3, Ave De La Vigne, 34300 Le Cap D'agde

Guest review score

8.4 from 83 reviews

Clients appreciate the hotel offers comfortable rooms equipped with modern amenities such as free Wi-Fi internet access, After the treaty, the French began a ruthless process of Frenchification, which was successful in Perpignan where the bourgeoisie tended to identify their commercial interest with a central power; the mountain hinterland, however, was left largely untouched until modern times, when the collapse of traditional agriculture, the introduction of compulsory education and the devastation of the vineyards by phylloxera combined to drive the people off the land – a process which still continues today, albeit at a slower rate. Surrounded by pine trees at the foot of Mont Saint Loup, highly valued, the the hotel boasts easy access to the all the town's facilities from a peaceful location, A short walk from place Jean-Jaurès, the Hôtel de Varenne, on place Pétrarque, houses two local history museums of somewhat specialized interest, the Musée de Vieux Montpellier, which is Tues–Sat 9.30am–noon & 1.30–5pm; free,, concentrating on the city's history, and the more interesting, private Musée Fougau on the top floor, which is Wed & Thurs 3–6.30pm; free,, dealing with the folk history of Languedoc and things Occitan. Off to the right, the lively little rue des Trésoriers-de-France has one of the best seventeenth-century houses in the city, the Hôtel Lunaret, at no. 5, while round the block on rue Jacques Coeur you'll find the Musée Languedocien, which is July–Sept Mon–Sat 2–6pm; Oct–June Mon–Sat 2–5pm; €5,, which houses a very mixed collection of Greek, Egyptian and other antiquities. Only 10 minutes from the main port and the shops, and above all, next to the International Tennis Centre, the the hotel is only half a mile from the nudist area where you will find sandy beaches, First left off rue de la Loge is Grande-Rue Jean-Moulin, where Moulin, hero of the Resistance, lived at no. 21. To the left, at no. 32, the present-day Chamber of Commerce is located in one of the finest eighteenth-century hôtels, the Hôtel St-Côme, originally built as a demonstration operating theatre for medical students. On the opposite corner, rue de l'Argenterie forks up to place Jean-Jaurès. This square is a nodal point in the city's student life: on fine evenings between 6pm and 7pm you get the impression that the half of the population not in place de la Comédie is sitting here and in the adjacent place du Marché-aux-Fleurs. Through the Gothic doorway of no. 10 of place Jean-Jaurès, is the so-called palace of the kings of Aragon, who ruled Montpellier for a stretch in the thirteenth century. Close by is the Halles Castellane, a graceful, iron-framed market hall. Guests have free access to Hotel Tennis International’s tennis courts and the 25 metre swimming pool, very much appreciated, which is open 1 June to 30 September, The crowded and vibrant pedestrian streets are scattered with café tables. A short climb up from the harbour is the cimetière marin, the sailors' cemetery, where poet Paul Valéry is buried. A native of the town, he called Sète his "singular island", and the Musée Paul Valéry, in rue Denoyer, which is July & Aug daily 10am-6pm; Sept–June Wed–Mon 10am–noon & 2–6pm; €3.05,, opposite the cemetery, has a room devoted to him, as well as a small but strong collection of modern French paintings. If you're feeling energetic, you should keep going up the hill, through the pines to the top, for a view that's fabulous when it's not engulfed in sea mist. Below the sailors' cemetery, and neatly poised above the water, is Vauban's Fort St-Pierre, now home to an open-air theatre. Over on the west side of the hill, George Brassens, associate of Sartre and the radical voice of a whole French generation, is buried in the Cimetière le Py, in spite of his song Plea to be Buried on the Beach at Sète. In Éspace Brassens, which is July & Aug daily 10am–noon & 2–6pm; Sept–June Tues–Sun 10am–noon & 2–6pm; €10.53,, overlooking the cemetery, the locally born singer-songwriter lives again through his words and music, narrating his life-story in French on the museum's headsets., A good part of PERPIGNAN's population is of Spanish origin – refugees from the Civil War and their descendants. The southern influence is further augmented by a substantial admixture of North Africans, including both Arabs and white French settlers repatriated after Algerian independence in 1962. If you'd like to stay in a Perpignan hotel, this website has a lot., Montpellier's city centre – the old town – is small, compact, architecturally homogeneous, full of charm and teeming with life, except in July and August when the students are on holiday and everyone else is at the beach. And the place is almost entirely pedestrianized, so you can walk the narrow streets without looking anxiously over your shoulder., On the hill at the end of rue Foch, from which the royal artillery bombarded the Protestants in 1622, the formal gardens of the Promenade du Peyrou look out across the city and away to the Pic St-Loup, which dominates the hinterland behind Montpellier, with the distant smudge of the Cévennes beyond. At the farther end a swagged and pillared water tower marks the end of an eighteenth-century aqueduct modelled on the Pont du Gard. Beneath the grand sweep of its double tier of arches is a daily fruit and veg market and a huge Saturday flea market. At the city end of the promenade, a vainglorious triumphal arch shows Louis XIV-Hercules stomping on the Austrian eagle and the English lion, tactlessly reminding the locals of his victory over their Protestant "heresy"., Perhaps more interesting, 15km north and served by several trains a day, is the Château de Salses, which is April, May & Oct daily 9.30am–12.30pm & 2–6pm; June & Sept 9.30am–6.30pm; July & Aug 9.30am–7pm; Nov–March 10am–noon & 2–5pm; €5.50, . Built by the Catalans in the early fifteenth century, it was one of the first forts to be designed with a ground-hugging profile to protect it from artillery fire, and its superior design apparently put Vauban's nose so out of joint that he wanted it demolished, a task that proved impossible.
