The River Geul is even flowing right through our spacious garden, Tongeren is proud of its claim to be the oldest town in Belgium. It has its origins in the Roman military camp of Atuatuca which Julius Caesar mentions in the "Gallic War"; the Roman occupation was lifted by Ambiorix, prince of the Eburon in 54 B.C.. Under the Emperor Augustus, Germanic Tongerens settled here and there arose the Roman Civitas Atuatuca Tungrorum which became an important station on the road between Cologne and Bavay; in the second C. A.D. it was provided with a great encircling wall. In the same period it is said that Saint Maturnus conducted a mission here. Tongeren was raised to be a bishopric around 315 but, however, soon this was removed to Maastricht and in the eighth C. to Liège. As a consequence the town became the property of the prince-bishop. Towards the end of the fourth C. the Salian Franks had destroyed Tongeren; the removal of the bishop's see brought a further decline, so that in the Middle Ages the town had a more modest position than in Roman times and this is clearly shown by smaller encircling fortifications. From now on Tongeren shared the fate of the estates of the prince-bishops and in 1677 was once again bombarded by the troops of Louis XIV. Industrialization began about 1830 and, together with its function as a market and administrative center for the surrounding district of rural Hesbaye, helped Tongeren to its present importance. Hotel Restaurant Vue des Montagnes is a comfortable three star hotel situated in the heavenly Geuldal, Kasteel van Alden-Blezen. Our hotel is located at the entrance to the nature development project "Ingendael", Tongeren - Onze-Lieve-Vrouwbasiliek. For our guests: a modern bar and the à la carte restaurant Ingendael, Eupen is clearly divided into the more industrial lower town and the upper town characterized by buildings from its period of prosperity, which is 18th C., . Superb patrician houses stand in the market place, Gospertstrasse and in the Werthplatz., number and variety of jobs available in many small industrial concerns. The sights of cultural and historical interest of the town mirror its long history and are attractions for the tourist., The main attraction of Aachen is the well-preserved Aachen Cathedral, commissioned by Charlemagne in 786 AD. The unique cathedral has a round nave and notable Byzantine influences, and its treasury includes the coronation throne of the Holy Roman Emperors. The cathedral is also home to impressive holy relics collected by Charlemagne — including the cloak of the Virgin Mary and the swaddling-clothes of the Infant Jesus — which still attract pilgrims., The high-quality collections of Aachen's museums paint a comprehensive picture of the development of art from antiquity via medieval sculpture to the present day. Temporary exhibitions and a varied programme of events provide lively access to modern-day culture., The city of Aachen, which is pronounced "AH-ken", in western Germany has a population of about 257,000 people. Aachen is known to French speakers as Aix-la-Chapelle and to Italians as Aquisgrana, which is reflecting its original Latin name, . Aachen was the site of an ancient sacred hot spring, but is best known for its later association with Emperor Charlemagne.

The nature region of Geulhem and the bordering town of Berg and Terblijt are located in 'the garden of Maastricht', close to the Burgundian capital of Europe. Conveniently close to the city yet nestled in the woods, each morning you will be awakened by the song of the many birds. The Geulhem countryside is the perfect starting point for walks or bike rides and remains picturesque during each season.

How to get there
By public transport:
The NS railway station of Houthem-St. Gerlach is just a few hundred metres from the hotel. It is also possible to travel to the station of Valkenburg aan de Geul and from there you can take a (train) taxi to the hotel.
By plane:
Maastricht-Aachen Airport is just 15 minutes by car from the hotel.
By car:
From Maastricht/Liège:
- From the stadium of Maastricht called De Geusselt, drive to Berg en Terblijt and then pass two traffic lights
- On the top of the hill, turn left to Geulhem en Berg
- Follow the sign ‘doorgaand verkeer’ (through traffic) and turn right at hotel/café De Geulhemermolen
- Then take the first street on the right and after 100 metres you will see Hotel Vue des Montagnes on your left hand side
From Heerlen/Aachen:
- Take the A79 to Maastricht
- On the A79, take the exit to Meerssen
- Turn left at the end of the exit
- At the next T-junction you turn left (to the right is to Meerssen)
- Keep on following this road and in Houthem-St.Gerlach turn right to Geulhem/Berg en Terblijt.
- Follow this road and take the third road on your left, next to the mountain wall, and here you will see the hotel indicated
- After 100 metres you will find the hotel on your left hand side
From Eindhoven/Amsterdam:
- You take the A2 to Maastricht
- In Maastricht turn left at the first traffic lights to Berg en Terblijt
- On your left you will see the stadium De Geusselt
- Keep on following this road and you will pass two traffic lights
- On the top of the hill turn left to Geulhem en Berg
- You follow the sign ‘doorgaand verkeer’ (through traffic) and you turn right at hotel/café De Geulhemermolen
